A land of deserts and deltas, Botswana is Africa's most exclusive destination for good reason. Almost 30% of Botswana's land is a protected and is home to some of the world's most endangered species of large mammal, such as cheetah, white and black rhinoceros, African wild dog and striking black maned lions. There are more elephants in Botswana than any other country in Africa.
All our guests who have been to Botswana rave about the game viewing, potentially unrivalled anywhere in the world, as well as the quality and friendliness of all the lodge staff and guides. For those serious about a safari this should be near the top of your bucket list.
Key Information
-
April - November: This is dry season in Botswana. Wildlife is drawn to water sources and game viewing is improved as a result.
If visiting in April pack warm clothes as temperatures early in the morning drop below zero (but warm quickly).
December - March: Green season which, as with many African countries brings humid weather and occasional spectacular storms.
-
Safari: Regarded as the finest game viewing in Africa and as a result the home of some of the world’s best camps, lodges and guides. From huge elephant herds, an abundance of plains game and therefore predators, including the illusive painted wolf, even the most dedicated would fail to keep count of how many species you see on safari here.
Relax: As a landlocked country we recommend those wanting a coastal option after their safari head down to South Africa (a short international flight) and enjoy time in Cape Town or the wine route after their Botswana safari.
-
Photography: Kwando Safari Lagoon Camp. Renowned for its abundant wildlife, particularly significant populations of elephants and buffaloes, especially during the winter season, when herds of up to a thousand buffalo are frequently spotted. This substantial gathering of wildlife naturally draws the presence of big cats and other predators. The Lagoon wild dog pack frequently establishes their den in close proximity to the camp, offering fantastic opportunities for observation. We also believe that combining a collection of the Great Plains properties creates a dynamic photo safari.
Honeymoon: Great Plains’ Dhow Suites at Zarafa. This Private 2 bedroom villa is a perfect exclusive get away for a couple celebrating their marriage, paired perfectly with any of the other stunning Great Plains properties for a stunning honeymoon.
Family: As a country not renowned for its child friendly options we usually suggest Kwando properties as they are the most child friendly with plenty of activities for the budding guides in your family to get involved with. Wilderness Seba is also a fantastic option depending on your budget.
